I wanted to take some time and tell you
about some exciting news at Evergreen. First, you might have
noticed the computer laptops in the examination rooms. We have
shifted to paperless medical records. This improves our
efficiency in a variety of ways, not to mention we can actually
read the other entries without having to decipher “doctors
handwriting”. Paperless medical entries are becoming standard
in human medicine, and as we progress with the system, we hope
to be able to scan in radiographs and referral letters. This
means that we have one access point to retrieve your pet’s
medical records, and can review all the history simply and
accurately.
This year is a big year for Evergreen
Animal Hospital. Starting in June, we are going to begin the
process for certification by the American Animal Hospital
Association. This certification is granted to hospitals that
excel in quality animal health care. The following AAHA list is
the “top reasons to become accredited.”
1 Accreditation increases overall
effectiveness by fostering an atmosphere in which all team
members work together to create processes and standard operating
procedures.
2 The evaluation process is truly an
opportunity for you to look at your practice beliefs,
philosophies and processes and to continually benchmark and
improve your practice.
3 Established standards for the
veterinary industry raise the bar on veterinary care.
4 AAHA accreditation is voluntary
and sets you apart from competitors.
5 Re-evaluations every three years
helps practices keep up-to-date on changes in the veterinary
industry.
6 Working through the standards
helps to promote safety within the practice.

I would also like to celebrate new family
members to Evergreen Animal Hospital.
Please welcome James Kane, Ethan Hankwitz,
and Gianna Iaia into the world. Dr. Kane, Dr. Hankwitz and Dr.
Bart are quite happy but somewhat sleep-deprived parents.
Dr. Bart is in the process of becoming a
“Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist” through the Chi
Foundation. I am delighted to bring this service to the clients
and to provide another treatment modality for pets. Acupuncture
involves stimulating certain points along energy channels called
meridians. This ancient art of medical practice goes back 8000
years! Acupuncture is great for conditions such as arthritis,
and can help a variety of other chronic problems. As I am still
learning this process, I would like to offer a reduced rate for
clients that are interested in acupuncture. Please allow an
hour appointment for the first session, and at least 2-3
sessions are needed before improvement is seen. Please speak
with the receptionists, or call me if you have any questions.
As always, if we exceed your expectations,
please tell your neighbor, and if we fall short of your
expectations, please speak with Denise Iaia or me.
Thank you for your support
Bart Iaia, DVM
